Review our Cleaning Services Blue Science Pool Service Behind The Scenes Drool in the Pool - How Dogs affect your swimming pool... So you have a dog. Your dog loves swimming in the pool as much as you do. Are there any issues that could cause problems from your furry canine swimming in it? Below, I go over some things that need to be known about a dog in a pool. First, let me say that chlorine in a swimming pool will not hurt your dog. But can your dog affect the pool? Personally, I feel that dogs and other pets should NOT be allowed to swim in the pool or spa. A single dog in a pool is equivalent to 3 or more people.

It will raise the pH and quickly consume the pool's chlorine. This creates a nightmare for the equipment and pool plaster, if not corrected quickly. Animals ALWAYS have small particles of fecal matter stuck in their fur. This fecal matter WILL contaminate the pool's water aiding in the transmission of Recreational Water Illnesses (RWI's) such as E. coli, Giardia, Hepatitis A and Cryptosporidium. Besides the affect on the pool's water chemistry, the fur of a dog will get caught in the pools equipment resulting in more frequent service and/or replacement of parts and higher service and maintenance costs. As much fun as your dog probably has playing in the pool, wading around like a wet rat, it is a risk you take having them in there. Earthworms and Swimming Pools... So, I have been thinking about this question that was asked of me recently, "How and why do I get earthworms in my pool?"I have researched this because it is actually a question that I had no answer for.

So I did some research, (took my experience, talked to pest control guys and other more knowledgable pool guys). Here is what I found: Earthworms naturally will seek moist areas, whether in dirt, sand, etc. That being said, it seems that they would try to go deeper into the earth when heavy rain, thunder and lightening approaches. However, this doesn't seem to be the case. Worms crawl out during rain, then when the rains stop, the worms dry out and head for the nearest source of water - your pool. And yes, they can crawl across, or are carried across the pool deck by the rain water. Since they "breathe" through their skin, they fall in or crawl in trying to... Are Swimming Pools More Dangerous Than Guns? Risks that scare are very different than risks that kill. "when hazard is high and outrage is low, people under react. And when hazard is low and outrage is high, they overreact." Cherubic four-year-old shot through the chest is nothing less than horrifying; the same child quietly slipping out of her house while dinner is prepared and falling into the pool that lacks gate or cover is tragic.
