Because if you don’t find it in the small things and you only wait for big moments, then you’ll just not be a happy person. Just drinking Malbec while listening to ā€˜When We Were Young’ on repeat.
I spend a lot of time in airports, in line at security, on moving walkways, buying magazines at Hudson News. I know where to get the best sushi at ATL, the best wine (and the worst burger) at LHR and the best to-go pretzel and homemade gummy bears at FRA. I’ve missed flights out of ORD and practiced Spanish at MEX most recently I watched my flight board at AEP without realising it was mine, and I was about to miss it. I like airports, I like the routine, I like the people watching, I like the purpose. Mostly though, I love arriving home. When I land at JFK I know I’m an hour away from my little house on the upper west side. When I land at LHR I know my Brit is on the other side. In any city I know someone is waiting for someone special and sometimes knowing that is just enough. Tonight I’ll fall asleep somewhere over South America, and tomorrow I’ll be in New York City. Next week I’ll go to the airport twice to pick up my British family. And the following week I’ll head to LHR to see the rest of my Brighton team.
Here’s to my last ā€˜work’ trip of 2015. I’m so happy to be going home. I have a few hours left in this, my 32nd year. Ā It started with a whole big bunch of gold balloons and some very ripe peaches. It’s been a tangle of chargers and missing hair brushes and doctor visits and not enough cardigans. I went to the Kentucky Derby. I moved into a flat on my own, got a promotion, built on some friendships that I hold very dear. I cried a lot this year - because of unknown bits but also my baby cousin going off to college and sometimes just because of a hard hitting commercial. In my 32nd year I became a Universal Life Minister so I can have the incredible honor of presiding over the marriage of one of my favorite people to her favorite person. I drank some really nice wine and made some really great friends. I sat in a ball pit and I visited the best of all the babies. I ate a lot of bacon. I fell in forever love. There was confetti and sparklers and fireworks and succulents (that I killed).
I went to Vegas & Nashville & St. Louis & Chicago & Brighton & Anaheim & Beverly Hills & Mexico & Miami & Brighton again & London & Amsterdam & Brussels & Orlando & Kentucky & Brighton & Frankfurt & Bourton-on-Water & Las Vegas & Boston & Warwick & Newport & Austin & San Francisco & Brighton & New Orleans and Westhampton. I cooked a lot and took Montauk on snowy walks. I ate a lot of really, really delicious food and didn’t really go to the gym (work on that for 33 Suze). I took a hike or two and pet a dog or 600. There were ferris wheels and water slides and looking back, I would say that while this was a tough year - I had a pretty nice 32. Hi Team - I am going to Siena, Italy for a wedding next week and have 2 days to explore. We have rented a car and my only goal is to eat my weight in pasta. Any recommendations for day trips or places we can’t miss? Heading to Austin for the 1st time tomorrow - it’s a work trip but I’m hoping for a little bit of adventure time - any recommendations?
