Drop In Tub Heater

I just had my water heater replaced (by a professional) and everything is great except the bathtub fixtures (shower head and tub faucet) in just one bathroom. The water pressure is really low, especially when it's turned to hot. Every other fixture in the house works fine (even upstairs). I took off the tub faucet fixture to see if sediment had accumulated in there, but when I turn on the water and watch it come straight out the piping, I see the same thing. Decent pressure if it's on cold and slows to a trickle when turned all the way to hot. I'm getting the run-around from the installer and don't want to call a plumber if I can fix this myself. I can see almost the entire run from the heater to the tub, which is all copper piping, and I have access via a wall panel to the fixture from behind the tub. Sounds like you need to replace the mixing valve. This is a simple part to replace. This usually involves removing the handle and possibly the trim, then removing a retaining clip, and the pulling out the cartridge.

If your hot water heater is delivering less hot water than it used to, there are several things that can be causing your problem, depending on what type of water heater you have. If your tank is electric, a lower element could be defective, or the dip tube could be missing. If you have a gas model, it would most likely be the dip tube (see our FAQ section regarding dip tubes). And, sometimes we find there is nothing wrong at all. In the winter, incoming water temperature is much colder, which causes the remaining hot in the tank to dilute much faster (the cold water coming in is what pushes the hot out to your shower). Another possibility is if you recently changed your showerheads to a higher flow rate model. Here are a few things to consider. A water heater will only give you 2/3 of it’s capacity as usable hot water. If your tank is a 50 gallon model, that would be about 33 gallons. If your showerheads are limited to 2.5 gallons per minute (GPM), then your shower time should be close to 15-20 minutes before you notice a temp drop.

However, if you have 5 GPM showerheads, simple math says you’ll have 8-10 minutes of hot water. Here’s a test you can perform to see what is happening. Start with a completely recovered tank (no hot water has been used for several hours). You’ll need a 5-gallon bucket and a thermometer that has a range up to 160 degrees. With the thermometer in the stream of hot water, fill the bucket from the tub spout and record how many times you fill the 5 gallon bucket before you see a 20 degree temperature drop. Do the math to see how much hot water your tank is producing. If it is not 2/3 of the tank’s capacity, it’s time for service or replacement. Another test will help you determine what the GPM rate of your showerhead is. Just hold the bucket up to the showerhead and have someone turn on the shower. Fill the bucket for 30 seconds and then determine how much water is in the bucket. Double that amount and you have your GPM. If your bucket fills more than 1/3 of the way in 30 seconds, it may be time to consider low flow showerheads.

They conserve water and help “stretch” your usable hot water supply. Check out the Model & Serial Number page to determine how old your tank is. If it’s more than 8 years old, it may not be worth spending money to repair the tank.Home » Community » General questions We're in need of a new hot water heater because our current one has failed. Whirlpool Jetted Tub Buying Guide Swirl-Way Luxury Whirlpool Tubs Luxury Steam Bath Packages Q. "What is Hot Rush?" A. Hot Rush is a service we offer which dramatically increases the speed of your order. 3-4 weeks is the average lead time when shipping these made to order tubs. However, by selecting Hot Rush, we are able to get your order shipped with a lead time of 5-6 business days. Please note: tubs with an apron cannot be hot rushed due to production requirements.

Q. "Why acrylic construction?" A. Americh's acrylic tubs are made out of a formed sheet of acrylic, which remains consistent throughout the top layer of the tub and then is fiberglass-reinforced on the bottom side for strength. What this means for you is vivid color that permeates the entire layer of acrylic - if you ever scratch this tub, simply buff it out! With proper care, an Americh tub will easily last its 20 year warranty and beyond. Q. "What is the benefit of adding the 'high density reinforcement' to the tub?" A. The "high density reinforcement" applied to the tub is actually to make it more substantial so as to have the feel and substance of a cast iron tub, without the heft (and cost). It is an extra layer of 1/4" thick fiberglass applied to the tub exterior, which results in a total wall thickness of approximately 1/2" and gives it a more solid feel. Q. "What is your opinion on Americh's quality?" A. Second to none. We believe Americh is one of the finest, quality oriented, acrylic tub manufacturers in the U.S.
