Several who spoke against the ban were employees of the store, which until about a year ago was known as California Pets under a different owner.The employees said the animals they sell come from reputable, humane breeders, and that people have a right to choose where they buy their pets.Supporters of the ban far outnumbered opponents. Most said that no reputable breeder would ever allow their animals to be sold in a pet store, because the conditions there are almost always cramped, unsanitary and inhumane."
