Appliance Repair Practice Test

The RV Dealer Association and the RV Industry Association have partnered to introduce an Internet-based training course they hope will make it easier for technicians to receive training and become certified for the betterment of the industry. Beginning Feb. 25, working RV technicians will be able to take an online study course to help them prepare for the RVDA-RVIA Service Technician Certification Test. In a joint RVIA-RVDA press conference held during RVIA’s recent 45th Annual National RV Trade Show in Louisville, RVIA President Richard Coon said the new online training came about in part because dealers expressed concern that technician training was becoming cost-prohibitive. In addition to the expense of the training itself, there also was a concern by dealers that offsite technician training often results in lost dealership shop productivity, RVDA President Mike Molino added. “This is a flexible program that provides high-quality coursework in a flexible format designed to meet the needs of today’s busy RV dealerships and technicians,” Molino said.
He noted that the new RV Technician Certification Preparation Course is available anytime, anywhere with high-speed Internet access. The cost starts at just $249 for each technician, with discounts available for registering four or more technicians. Coon described the technology behind the Internet-based training program as “cutting edge.” Used Furniture Stores London KyIn addition to text, photos and graphics, the online site features audio, streaming video and a mentor-led technician community forum.Home Gym Flooring Perth “RVIA used some of the leading experts in RV component and systems repair to develop this online course,” he said. It was a significant investment that we feel will move the industry forward.” Bruce Hopkins, RVIA’s vice president of standards and education, said the online training is meant to augment, rather than replace, existing training programs, such as the RVIA-RVDA Trouble Shooter Clinics, which notably have a hands-on element to them. “It’s not necessarily for everyone, but we think it may work well for younger, more computer-savvy technicians,” he said. Hopkins said one of the advantages of the online course is that it is self-paced, based upon the individual’s time and motivation. Theoretically, it would be possible for a technician to complete the online training course in as little as 40 hours, but it’s expected most technicians will require more time than that. He noted that completion of the course also applies to recertification requirements for existing certified RV technicians. Among the notable features of the website, Hopkins said, is the online forum, which gives the training an interactive component.
“If they’ve got a question they can post it on the online forum, which we will monitor, to make sure accurate information is conveyed,” he said. “So they’re not out their by themselves, like they might be getting training from a book or a TV program.” RVIA officials noted that the sections within the online certification preparation course correspond to the certification test sections. These sections include: propane, electrical, plumbing, brakes, suspension and towing, appliances, generators, hydraulics, exterior, interior, expandable rooms and miscellaneous tasks. There are practice tests after each chapter and section that will provide immediate review and feedback. “When all of the instructional content is complete, the student can take a certification practice test. The questions on the certification test are representative of the actual test,” Hopkins said. “The practice test is timed so a technician can determine how he will perform under the three-hour time restraint of the (actual) certification test.”
Hopkins said that the practice tests can be taken as many times as needed to achieve a consistent high score. Each time the test is taken, the questions and question order will change, making each practice test a unique experience, he added.
