My deepest conviction is for Labradors to always be Retrievers, so maintaining the integrity of hunting instinct is paramount to my breeding program. I strive for healthy dogs, correct for type and structure and temperament. I began in Labradors in the early ’80s, then paused showing and breeding to pursue my career. The dogs themselves, however, stayed with me. In the new millennium, I started BearPaw. All of my dogs come from established show lines of English type, and compete in the breed ring, hunt tests, and obedience. Many of them are certified through Therapy Dogs International, and work as therapy dogs as well. Most importantly, my dogs are members of the family. Along with my lovely young girls, the old-age pensioners keep my feet and my heart warm.

Labradors have been in our family for over 35 years. At our ranch, located just over an hour southeast of Dallas, you will find our extended family of dogs, horses, donkeys, cats, and other native critters. Alder Creek is home to “Miles”, also known as MBISS GCH/Can CH/Mex CH Sunnydaze Running Across The Miles. After winning the Best of Opposite Sex at the Westminster Kennel Club in 2012, he went on to be awarded multiple Best in Labrador Specialty wins, as well as finishing his Canadian Championship in one day! His most recent win was Select Dog at the Eukanuba National Championship. We are so proud of Miles finishing 2012 as the #4 Labrador Retriever in the United States. April 26, 2015, Carolina earned her championship and is now CH Amea’s Carolina Chasing Miles of Alder Creek May 10, 2015, Kea earned her Canadian Championship and is now Can CH Alder Creek’s Kea Runs the Miles. Our primary goal is to produce the highest quality puppies that are genetically sound, have classic Labrador breed type, great temperaments and natural working ability. Our labs actively compete in Conformation, Working, Obedience and/or Hunt Test achievements. Genetic clearances include screening for hip and elbow dysplasia by Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), annual examinations with the Canine Eye Registry Foundation (CERF), mutation test for PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy), Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM), Dilute Gene, Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis (HNPK), and Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC). We know by investing in these screenings we can greatly reduce or eliminate hereditary problems. We are confident in the health of our dogs and puppies and we back this up with a health guarantee.
