Whether you choose a bold solid color or a patterned look, window coverings determine the tone of a room. It can be an exciting process, one that completes the finishing touch of your design. Less fun, however, is the confusing pricing most retailers utilize, in which curtains most often are priced by a single panel and not as a... read more »Where Should I Shop? There’s no substitute for touching fabric and feeling its heft, so it’s a good idea to check out curtains in the store or order swatches (higher-end sites will allow you to do this) before making a purchase.
Some retailers will even lend you large fabric samples to take home and hang in front of your window. Below are some reliable sources, most of which you can visit in person as well as online. A range of colors and pretty patterns abound, but materials are mostly limited to unlined cotton, linen, and polyester. Many curtains from these retailers are lined, so they’ll drape better. Expect to find every style, rendered in especially luxurious fabrics.  (only made to order)  (also has made to order) Our Panel (Get It?) of Curtain Experts: Ian Gibbs, cofounder of The Shade Store, a custom-drapery retailer Jackie Von Tobel, an interior designer and the author of The Design Directory of Window Treatments The Real Simple decorating editorsReview this business:Click to Rate02/14/2016The Curtain Exchange in Atlanta is the place to go for window treatments. I found the customer service to be warm, helpful, knowledgeable and right on target in helping me to move from an out of style to a smart up to date look.
The showroom is beautiful, the parking is great and the location is easy to find. After an initial consultation, their designers will come to your house with recommendations and swatch books for fabrics and hardware, measure and then let you select what you want. They don't install, so if you're looking for something more turnkey you might be better off with Smith & Noble, but your selections will be more limited (we did that, too). Here, there's an actual storefront you can go back to if you want to select a different fabric.ShareFlag12/11/2011Provided by Citysearch - HORRIFIC CUSTOMER SERVICE!I am still trying to recover from this horrible experience that cost me approximately $5,000.00!! The CUSTOM DRAPES and CUSTOM HARDWARE were not delivered within the established time.
When I contacted the owners and tried to get information on estimated delivery, I was given the ""run around"" and calls regarding follow-up were not returned as promised. It was after making several trips to the store and speaking with the owners (who repeatedly made false promises of expediting delivery) and demanding resolution, that I was able to get my drapes. The nightmare continued because the drapes and rods that I received did not meet measured specifications and it 6 MONTHS to get the problems resolved. During these economic hard times, it blows my mind that a business would treat any customer with the lack of integrity, professionalism, and human respect that I unfortunately encountered.Flag01/21/2011Provided by Citysearch - A designer's dream vendor!I designed a room for a showhouse that included 108"" custom drapery panels which were not delivered by their due date. With one week till opening, I visited The Curtain Exchange based on my upholster's recommendation. They not only helped me locate the perfect replacements but located an additional panel in a matter of days when they discovered they only had 3 of the 4 panels I needed in stock.
Jim, Jane & The Curtain Exchange consultants are knowledgeable and extremely easy to work with. I look forward to using their services for all future projects. Ironically my custom drapes were ready on opening day, however I opted to use the ones from The Curtain Exchange. They hung beautifully and provided an elegant and traditional touch to an otherwise contemporary space. I love happy accidents and thanks to The Curtain Exchange for providing a happy ending!Flag09/10/2010Provided by Citysearch - Best Place to Shop for Curtains and Bedding!!!I renovated our house at the beach and replaced our old faded curtains in two rooms. Going on the advice of two friends and customers of The Curtain Exchange they convinced me to drive up to Atlanta. My experience at The Curtain Exchange was a unique one. I was treated like I had already made an appointment, I had not one but multiple consultants working together to help me and the ultimate result was I walked away with exactly what I wanted. A fresh new look and beautiful linen curtains!
I was also served a delicious lunch! They also helped me locate a rug that would be perfect in another room. They arranged to have their installers drive to the beach and hang my hardware and curtains. Thanks to all of you at TCE for your help. I will be back!!!Flag03/13/2010Provided by Citysearch - overpriced, limited selection, aggressive salespeopleWhen I first walked into Curtain Exchange, I was comfortable. A very friendly lady was helping me, but soon enough, 2 sales people--a slightly older lady and a man, jumped in and were way too high pressure for me to continue enjoying my curtain shopping experience. I was so appalled at the way they interrupted the nice lady's sale that the idea of giving them any money made me sick.Flag03/12/2010Provided by Citysearch - A GREAT PLACE FOR CURTAINSI was very impressed with the store and the owner and his wife. BEAUTIFUL curtains, in beautiful colors and beautiful fabrics. The colors are all dreamy.I had a hard time picking just one curtain, so they let me take a couple home. I ended up buying curtains for my dining room and my hallway. The best part: when they came to install them, I asked Jane Waddell the owner to recommend curtains for my powder room, kitchen and sunroom. Jane has a ""god given talent"" of picking the right design, the perfect colors and she truly knows exactly what hardware to recommend. This is the second house The Curtain exchange has done for me and I still love the curtains I bought 10 years ago and I love the ones I had installed last week.
Everyone that works there has a genuine passion for windows, they know their stuff!Flag04/19/2009Provided by Citysearch - A great place to buy anything for your windows! The Curtain Exchange is a large store on Huff Road amongst the West Side Design District. The minute I walked in the door I was greeted by a very polite sales consultant who gave me the ""low down"" on what they have to offer and their ""try them before you buy them"" curtain policy. This is a one stop curtain store and they have all the traditional decorative finials, hardware, wooden and wrought iron rods. I was also interested in ordering a set of Hunter Douglas blinds for my bathroom. They have custom bedding that you can match to your curtains. I was blown away by all of the custom ready-made curtains they had hanging on the walls...the full wall of custom samples from which to order. I love their samples because they are large so you can actually see the repeat patterns. There must have been several hundred or so....
