CPSC’s laws and regulations apply to anyone who sells or distributes consumer products. This includes thrift stores, consignment stores, charities, and individuals holding yard sales and flea markets. Used products have caused injuries and deaths and have been the subject of numerous recalls. Resellers should closely examine their products in inventory prior to resale to make sure that their products are safe and compliant with federal laws. When in doubt, throw it out! Products used in the nursery, especially cribs and bassinets, have caused deaths and have been the subject of numerous recalls of millions of units. Do not sell any broken or wobbly nursery furniture, or durable infant product that is missing parts, even if it has not been recalled. A baby's life could depend on  it. The risk is too high. We urge you to take a few extra steps when you sell your used products and to follow the advice in our Reseller's Guide to ensure that you are only selling safe products.
It's the way furniture should be made, one piece at a time. Look in the paper for local estate sales and garage sales. You can find some very good items for little money that way. My favorite place to buy things are estate auctions. I still have a lot of pieces I got cheap at the old Saturday morning Sloans Auction in downtown D.C. many, many years ago. I used to make a day of it, stopping at Reeves for breakfast and then head to the auction behind it on G Street. I still hit auctions around Tennessee for fun and for things I need. You do have to sit through a lot of "collectibles" to get to the good stuff. There are usually good buys on solid wood chests of drawers, dining room sets, rocking chairs, occasional chairs. You can find auctions here: Auction Zip - Live Auction Locator - Find Auctions Anywhere!
Check the local paper for estate sales. And don't forget Goodwill stores and the Salvation Army. 433 posts, read 762,330 times 6,235 posts, read 8,529,739 timesPatio Furniture Glides 1 3 8 605 posts, read 1,686,712 timesT Shirt Pro Israel In Gaithersburg there is the Model Home Clearance Center where they sell off furniture that was used to stage homes for sale. Shower Curtain For Step In TubYou will get a higher quality there than at an inexpensive place that sells new. However, selection is highly variable. Just 15 minutes down 270, there are great consignment shops in Bethesda. One I like is Gallery St. Elmo. Another is Upscale Resale. Both have a lot of classic styles; Chippendale is peranially popular. You'll also see some contemporary Ethan Allen-style interpretations of older period furniture.
As well, there are some mid-century modern pieces that come through fairly often. I was able to nab freshly-upholstered mahagony dining chairs for $125 each at Upscale. If you make it to Bethesda, you might want to check out the Urban Country Clearance Center at the intersection St. Elmo and Norfolk Avenues. Just be sure to get there between Wed. and Sat. and the hours of noon to 4. The Upholstery prices are a good value, but still somewhat high. However, wood furniture there can be quite affordable. 8,725 posts, read 13,665,974 times Originally Posted by scrapper105 The Humane Society Thrift is in a strip mall on Gude Drive.
