LSBR is run and managed 100% by volunteers. Our main objective is to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home boxers that come to us, regardless of age or health, from many sources including local animal shelters, owner surrenders, and strays.

Rescue involves more than just nursing a dog back to health and placing it in a home that will love and care for it. These dogs more often than not, come into rescue sick, injured, traumatized and unwanted. Many lack necessary socialization and have behavior problems. Each issue must be dealt with to make an adoption successful. To complete the circle of success for these rescue boxers, LSBR volunteers also work with the prospective family members as they adjust. Boxers in rescue come from several sources. Most are surrendered by their owners while others are rescued from shelters and humane societies or found as strays. Most of the boxers that come into rescue are 1 year old or older. Some are even senior citizens.

The advantages to adopting an adolescent or older boxer are many. Often, a slightly older dog is already housebroken and much calmer, so new owners can avoid the messiness of potty training and the upset of furniture or shoes used as chew toys by their new family members. Adopting a senior boxer also can be very rewarding. Older boxers usually are well trained and very receptive to any and all affection offered to them. However, LSBR's goal is to place the right boxer in the right "forever" home, which means we may not have the boxer that fits best with your family at the time you submit your application.

LSBR volunteers, however, work diligently to ensure adoptions go smoothly for everyone involved. The average cost to adopt a boxer from Lone Star Boxer Rescue is $275.00 Because LSBR is a nonprofit organization, we rely on adoption fees and donations to fund the organization and continue caring for rescues. All dogs received into rescue see a veterinarian for a complete examination, heartworm test and to receive his or her vaccinations. Many of the dogs also must be spayed or neutered, and the majority of them require heartworm treatment, which alone costs $400. We do everything possible to ensure that you will adopt a healthy boxer. If there is an ongoing medical condition, LSBR will inform you prior to the adoption and will be available for consults to assist you in caring for your boxer. When you adopt a boxer from LSBR, you sign a contract that states you cannot sell or give a way your boxer. This is a legal agreement, and if for some reason you are unable to keep or care for your dog, it must be returned to Lone Star Boxer Rescue.
