Sometimes it is just one, often there are a few. Some are grown, some just babies. They arrive sick, injured, and scared, in need of food and a home. Each year we take in more animals than the previous year. These added numbers mean we have to spend more on spay/neuter operations, medical supplies and veterinarian costs. In one year alone we will provide medicine and needed vet services for over a 1,000 animals. In addition, we have the daily costs of food, energy and all of the other expenses it takes to run our shelter. Everyday we feed, clean, medicate and care for our many beautiful and loving animals. We do this not only because it is needed, we do it - Because We Care. Please remember all the animals that need your help by making a donation today.

Our application is designed to help us determine if the adoption is in yours and the animal’s best interest and to place our animals into permanent responsible homes.
We want to assist you in finding the pet most compatible with your lifestyle. Because the animal’s welfare must be our foremost consideration, HSR reserves the right to deny any adoption. Cookie, who was certified by Guinness World Records as the oldest living parrot in 2014, died on August 27. He was the oldest resident at the zoo and the only remaining member of the original animal collection, which dates back to 1934, when the zoo first opened. Cookie lived well beyond the life expectancy for his species. He arrived at Brookfield Zoo at the age of 1 from Taronga Zoo in Australia. Over the years, Cookie’s popularity grew and he touched many people’s lives. He received many cards, letters, toys, and pictures from admirers around the world. Among his admirers is Dr. Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji, a holy man and healer from Mysore, India, who founded a parrot sanctuary there. When he heard about Cookie, His Holiness and his entourage made a pilgrimage to Brookfield. The
