Jim Harbaugh explains why Wilton Speight took snaps over Shane Morris on Saturday on September 13, 2015 at 2:44 PM, updated ANN ARBOR -- Anyone still watching Michigan's final snaps against Oregon State on Saturday noticed something rather interesting. As the Wolverines brought out their second team to take the final kneel down snaps of the game, Michigan's quarterback was redshirt freshman Wilton Speight -- not Shane Morris. Morris still has a redshirt year under his belt, and Harbaugh didn't want to burn it on one meaningless snap late in the game. "Shane's the No. 2 quarterback," Harbaugh said. "There was a kneel down situation at the end, and I'm not going to play Shane in that position because he's in his junior year and he's had two years where he's played two years. "He's the No. 2 quarterback." Harbaugh wasn't saying Michigan has plans to sit Morris out the entire season, but at the same time, didn't want him to waste an entire year of eligibility on one snap.
Speight used his redshirt season last year, of course. Michigan also dressed true freshmen Alex Malzone and Zach Gentry on Saturday, but neither played. Elsewhere, a Michigan official said after Saturday's game that cornerback Jourdan Lewis was evaluated twice after coming up slow late in the second quarter and was ultimately diagnosed with a concussion and removed from game action. Lewis spent the rest of the game on the sideline in street clothes, and was scheduled to receive further evaluation Sunday. — Follow MLive's Michigan coverage on Facebook, Twitter and InstagramGeorgia-born Southern rocker T. Another hole on the depth chart has been filled as the Cowboys have found another veteran running back to add to the current stable.
It seems like the Cowboys have an axe to grind and are back at it with another free agency pickup. Recliner Loveseat CoverThis time, they’ve wrestled away a good running back from that division rival team from Washington. Curtain Room Divider HardwareAlfred Morris was said to be visiting Valley Ranch yesterday and it didn’t take long for them to strike an agreement.Patio Furniture Sale Kitchener Waterloo Moments ago, Alfred Morris' agent, @seanstellato, confirmed the former Redskins' RB will sign a two-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 22, 2016 The #Cowboys signed RB Alfred Morris to a 2-year worth $3.5M base, source said, with a chance to earn up to $5.5M. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 22, 2016
Though the Cowboys had a pretty good rushing attack in 2015 and resurrected the career of Darren McFadden, leaving all your trust in just him isn't the safest way to approach the 2016 season. The Cowboys currently have three backs on the roster as prior to this signing, McFadden, Rod Smith and an ACL-recovering Lance Dunbar. Morris was a sixth-round pick in 2012 who burst on the scene in his rookie year with 1,613 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns with a 100-yard game average. He followed that up with two more 1,000+ yard rushing seasons before splitting carries and playing time with Washington draft pick Matt Jones last season. Morris is considered a perfect scheme fit for the zone blocking scheme that Dallas prefers although the Dallas’ offensive line showed they can master any scheme really. Morris sees the hole and hits it with great vision and balance. He’s also got that home run mentality as Cowboys fans are all too aware of. Dallas needed more depth at running back and Morris could compete for the starting gig right away if asked to.
In only four years in the NFL, Morris has almost 5,000 rushing yards, 29 touchdowns and a 4.4 yard per carry average. Not bad for the Cowboys to grab a player that has often had success against them, especially when you can take him from a team you see twice each year.Jennifer Garner Sings the Meow Mix Jingle and It's Everything Who knew Jennifer Garner was such a fan of Meow Mix?Yes, the 44-year-old actress chatted with E!
