What is an A-Type Lamp? The (A) stands for Arbitrary, which appropriately fits the rather unique shape compared to the (G) Globe, or (T) Tubular shaped lamps. The shape is virtually unchanged from the very first electric lamps made well over a century ago. of the A-Type incandescent allows for adequate space inside for the filament and supporting structures. Another feature of the oblong globe shape is the increased strength, allowing it to hold a vacuum; an essential element to the incandescent lamp.  At NLI, we stock nearly all voltages, wattages, and sizes including A15, A19, A21, and A23.Light bulbs are a part of everyday life, and it always pays to have a few spare light bulbs handy when one stops working. Light bulbs come in all different types, shapes, brightness levels, and colors. There are standard light bulbs, long-life light bulbs, and energy efficient light bulbs. Different light bulbs are designed for different uses. One would not use an indoor lamp light in an outdoor light fitting, and a large flood light would not be suitable in a small recessed ceiling light fitting.
When buying light bulbs, it is important that buyers buy the right bulb for the fitting. This will ensure optimal safety, lifespan, and effectiveness of the light bulb. Light bulbs vary significantly in price and energy efficiency. Common light bulbs can be purchased from any supermarket or department store. Specialty lighting stores sell a wide selection of light bulbs of various sizes, wattages, colors, and fixture styles. For outdoor light bulbs, home improvement stores have a good selection. Light bulbs can also be purchased online. eBay offers a wide range of light bulbs for sale and varying prices. Light bulbs vary in the type of fixtures they have. Buyers should only buy a light bulb that is specially designed for a particular fixture. An indoor light bulb should never be used in an outdoor fitting, and a bayonet light bulb fixture cannot be used in a screw-in fixture fitting. For light fittings that feature a dimmer option, special dimmable light bulbs are available. There are three main light bulb fixture bases.
These are bayonet, screw-in, and pin. They are all commonly used, although the screw-in base fixture is the most common. Bayonet light bulbshave a smooth metal base with two pins that stick out on each side of the bulb. These are inserted into a bayonet light fitting by gently pushing and twisting the pins into place. Screw - in light bulbs feature a metal thread. The light bulb is threaded into place by twisting in a clockwise direction into the light fitting. Pin light bulbs feature two metal prongs that are pushed gently into the light fitting. Light bulb bases also vary in size. Bayonet and screw-in bulbs come in a small size, called Candelabra, intermediate size, often used for home appliances, medium size, which is the most common for household fittings, and mogul, the largest bulb base size. The greatest difference between indoor and outdoor light bulbs is that outdoor light bulbs can withstand temperature changes and moisture. Indoor light bulbs should never be used in outdoor fittings.
Although outdoor light bulbs can be used with some indoor light fittings, it is best that only indoor light bulbs be used for safety reasons. Outdoor light bulbs work in exactly the same way as indoor bulbs, although they tend to be more expensive. Not all light bulbs work well when used with dimmer light fittings. For those looking for dimmable light bulbs to put into a dimmer switch, look for light bulbs that are specifically designed to be dimmed. Although all bulbs can be used in dimmer switches, those designed to be dimmable will provide the best range of light. There are several types of light bulbs available. Each offers various advantages and disadvantages. Some are less expensive to buy, some are energy efficient, and some offer different qualities of light. Incandescent light bulbs are the most commonly used type of bulb. They are available in a range of shapes, colors, and brightness levels. They offer a warm light that is comfortable to look at. Incandescent light bulbs generally range between 15 watts and 150 watts.
For home use, most people use incandescent light bulbs with a wattage between 40 and 100. Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) are the most energy-efficient light bulbs available. Although they are more expensive to purchase, they have a longer lifespan than incandescent bulbs. They are available in indoor and outdoor bulb varieties. Fluorescent light bulbs are commonly used in warehouses and offices, where natural light is at a minimum. Most fluorescent bulbs are cylindrical in shape, although they are available in round and U-shaped varieties. They are suitable for use with fluorescent light fittings. Halogen light bulbs work in the same way as incandescent light bulbs. They are more expensive to buy but are more energy efficient. They also have a longer lifespan than incandescent bulbs. They produce a very clear and bright light, making them great for use in an office, where reading is commonplace. LED light bulbs are a relatively new form of bulb technology available for use in the home.
LED bulbs are very energy efficient, more efficient than even halogen bulbs. LED bulbs do not create heat like incandescent bulbs do, increasing their energy efficiency. They also have a significantly greater lifespan than incandescent or halogen bulbs. The disadvantage to LED light bulbs is that they are expensive to purchase. They are not the best choice for use with a dimmer switch. There are many different light bulb shapes available. Some shapes are more suited to recessed lighting, chandelier fittings, or table lamps. Before deciding what shaped bulb to buy, buyers should identify where the lamp will be used. The following table provides a list of the different shapes of light bulbs available, and a short description of each. Most common light bulb shape; comes in a range of bases, colors, and bulb types Circular bulb, often used for light fittings with no shade or cover; available in various sizes Used to direct light; works like a spotlight; often used in recess lighting;
CFLs are commonly reflector-shaped Decorative bulb in the shape of a candle flame; commonly used in chandeliers, for mood lighting, and with dimmer switches Bullet shaped, used as a decorative bulb; designed to fit easily into small light fittings Commonly used in kitchen lighting and some appliances; many fluorescent bulbs are tubular in shape Common shape for CFL bulbs; available in dimmable and non-dimmable bulbsideal for use in lamps, considered to provide better light than other shapes of CFL bulbs The various shaped bulbs are designed to be used with different types of light fittings. The different shapes also offer variations in the type of light they can produce. Before buying a light bulb, buyers should make sure they know what shape bulb they require. The brightness of a light bulb is measured in lumens. Light bulbs that produce the most lumens for the lowest wattage output are more energy efficient. CFL and LED light bulbs are described as lumens, whereas incandescent bulbs tend to be described in watts.
When replacing a 40- watt incandescent bulb, choose a 450- lumen CFL or LED bulb, and to replace a 60- watt incandescent bulb, choose an 800- lumen CFL or LED bulb. The higher the number, the brighter the light will be. Light bulbs can also range in color. In general, the warmer the light, the more visually appealing it is. Most people like to use warm light bulbs in their home. For light bulbs, the color is measured in Kelvins (K). Cooler light is brighter and tends to be harsher on the eyes, although cooler light is more suitable for reading. The higher the Kelvin level, the cooler the light will be. A light bulb with a 3,000 K rating will provide a soft, warm light, and a light bulb with a 6,000 K rating will provide a cooler, whiter light. eBay makes buying light bulbs easy for buyers. eBay has simple search methods, secure payment options, and Top - rated Sellers.
