Shower Curtain For Step In TubNot bad going for an ‘and’ which doesn’t officially exist. Toilet Bowl Party FavorsThis week, Home Bargains celebrates its ruby anniversary. Red And White Plaid Duvet CoverOr, as you and everyone else in Merseyside probably refers to the retail phenomenon , ‘Home and Bargain’.
You have to go back a long way to find a time when the place to buy household brands for a bit less was called that. But the ‘and’ was very much there when entrepreneur Tom Morris opened the very first branch in Old Swan in 1976 and would remain so for almost 20 years. One of seven children and the son of a shopkeeper on Scotland Road, Tom Morris was 21 years old when that first store opened and his takings were less than £100 a week. But he persevered and it wasn’t long before the customers were flocking, enticed by the prospect of buying brands they recognised from other shops and the adverts on TV but selling at a lower price. Forty years on, there are now 370 stores nationwide with profits in 2014 of just under £1.3bn. An early advocate of the Home & Bargain ethos was comedian Ken Dodd who would often make the trip from his home in Knotty Ash to stock up on life’s essentials. Legend has it he would often rummage to the bottom of the toilet roll basket to make sure he got the biggest roll for his money.
With Tom Morris remaining notoriously publicity shy, it is his brother Joe, one of three other Morris siblings, who is usually found speaking in public on the Home Bargains founder’s behalf. Joe once recalled how his brother: “Has a real sense of smell for the retail business. He knows what is going on. “The key is good buying. He has an incredible reputation for it. If you get the buying right you can make money even if the stores are not perfect. You can have perfect stores but if you don’t have the product you will fail.” One of the biggest changes for the company happened in 1995 when it switched from the Home & Bargain name to Home Bargains. A new blue and red corporate identity was set up by another member of the Morris clan, Anton. Already a celebrated graphic designer in his own right - he is the man behind the Rose design on the chocolates of the same name and the official stamps for Euro 96 - he is now the company’s head of design. 40 years of Home Bargains

This time to Fallows Way 1995 - And another thing It's a change of name as Home & Bargain loses its 'and' in a brand shake-up to become Home Bargains with a brand new logo and corporate design.
