All of BARK's dogs are spayed/neutered, given routine vaccinations appropriate to their age, tested for heartworms, and microchipped prior to adoption. Volunteer opportunities range from hands-on help with the dogs to supporting our administrative team with fundraising, record keeping, or other exciting projects. Foster parents play an integral role in the success of orphaned dogs transitioning into new, forever homes. Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience for both the foster parent and the foster dog.

As an all-volunteer organization, donations enable BARK to continue to provide the necessary care for all of our dogs. Even the smallest amount or item makes a BIG difference! The mission of Bandit's Adoption and Rescue of K-9s (BARK) is to rescue orphaned or abandoned pets and other adoptable dogs from animal shelters in the Richmond area, provide spay/neuter and vaccinations, then find loving, forever homes for them. This one-page survey gathers information about your expectations of pet ownership and helps us determine which animals might best suit your lifestyle. Based on the results of the survey, you'll receive a color-coded Guest Pass to help guide you to cats or dogs that best meet your expectations.  Click here to learn more about Meet Your Match™ for Dogs Take the interactive online Meet Your Match Survey.Adoption Fee: $110 per dog or cat of any age; when you adopt two pets on the same day, the fee is $200. Adoption fee includes spay or neuter procedure, age-appropriate vaccinations, free behavior helpline support, a packet of valuable discount coupons and special offers, and more! In addition, all pets adopted from the Richmond SPCA will be microchipped prior to adoption.

A microchip is inserted under your pet's skin and serves as a permanent form of identification. Registration with 24PetWatch for the first year is included. All Richmond SPCA alumni (and altered housemates) also qualify to become clients of the Clinic for Compassionate Care.Reservation Policy:A potential adopter may place a reservation on a pet they meet at our Robins-Starr Humane Center. These reservations require a $20 deposit. We allow reservations to be placed on pets for two reasons: to allow another household member to meet the pet and/or to allow pet-to-pet introductions (typically resident dog meeting potential new dog). A 24-hour reservation may be placed on adult dogs weighing more than 25 lbs. and adult cats. A 4-hour reservation may be placed on pets under 6 months of age or any dog weighing 24 lbs. or less. If the reserve requirements are satisfied and result in an adoption, the deposit will be applied toward the adoption fee; otherwise, the deposit is non-refundable. Adoption Hours: Our adoption center is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Noon to 5 p.m. Sunday and Monday.

Two Fur YouIn the month of September, adopt any 2 cats or kittens and pay only 1 adoption fee. Seniors for Seniors Adoption SpecialAdopters age 60 or older who adopt a cat or dog age 5 years or older are eligible for a $50 adoption fee.

Adoption of a cat in this program will also include a cat starter kit, cardboard scratcher and a toy. Adoption of a dog in this program will also include a leash and collar, food and water bowl and a toy. Pets for Patriots Member Benefits The Richmond SPCA is proud to be part of the Pets for Patriots nationwide network of trusted adoption agencies. Benefits for member patriots adopting qualified pets include a reduced adoption fee of $50, a welcome home kit with pet supplies and may become clients of our low-cost Susan M.
