Add a plastic liner to your shower curtain to prevent water escaping. A shower curtain that is not hung right becomes the bane of your existence, leading to slippery floors and mildew issues. Water spews from the curtain's sides and even from its bottom if it is not hung at the right height. Water can seep beneath flooring and cause mold and mildew to grow, which can result in costly repair. A few tricks -- along with strict admonitions to those who use it – can leave your bathroom smelling fresh instead of mildewy.
Hot Tub Repair SchoolMeasure the distance from the top of the showerhead to the bottom of the tub.
Roll Top Laptop PresentationAlso, measure the height of the tub.
Cheapest Diy Flooring OptionsStandard tubs often have a depth of between 12 and 14 inches.

Unless you have a custom-made home, showerheads usually sit at approximately 80 inches above the tub floor, or 6-feet, 8-inches up the wall. Shower curtains generally measure about 72 inches high. With a 14-inch tub wall and a tension curtain rod set at the height of the shower head, this leaves about 6 inches of the shower curtain inside the tub, an ideal length to keep water inside the shower. Mark the location to install the tension rod on both ends of the tub. After removing the rod from the package, unscrew it slightly to get it to extend to its full length. Most tubs are at least 60 inches long, so you will need a tension rod slightly larger than that distance to have enough tension. Place one end of the tension rod against a mark on the wall. Slightly depress the rod as you move it into place on the second mark. Thread the curtain rod and liner onto the curtain rings, but leave them open if the rings must close when fully installed on the rod. Make certain that the liner sits inside the shower curtain, with the shower curtain pattern facing out.

Place the rings onto the curtain rod and snap them shut. Separate the liner from the curtain rod by inserting it inside the tub, allowing the shower curtain to hang freely on the outside. Add a splash guard at the bottom corner between the top of the tub and the wall closest to the showerhead. Splash guards are small plastic triangular pieces that secure to the wall and tub with an adhesive backing. Before installing the splash guards, ensure that the wall is free of wet spots. Wipe any moisture away with a clean towel, and then dry the area with a hair dryer until completely dry. Peel the backing from the splash guard and carefully center it in place on the tub and wall. Tell everyone in your home who uses the shower to make certain the plastic liner is inside the tub when showering. Let them know to keep the curtain end closest to the showerhead fully closed. Some shower curtain liners also come with small suction cups to adhere to the wall during a shower. Teach everyone how to use this kind of liner to prevent water from escaping your shower.

: How to Install a Shower Curtain Photo Credits Thinkstock Images/Comstock/Getty Images Suggest a CorrectionEdit ArticleHow to Create an Inexpensive Shower Enclosure for an Old Fashioned Bathtub Typically, an old-fashioned claw footed tub is converted to a tub-shower combination with an expensive store bought contraption. However, you can accomplish the same thing quite simply, with some wood dowels and twine. This is especially useful for students who live in old houses and don't have money for the expensive version. Note that you will be making a rectangular shower curtain rod suitable for hanging shower curtains around the bathtub. Determine the approximate dimensions of the tub. Buy some wood dowel of approximately 1 1/4" diameter at any home or hardware store. While you're there, purchase the inexpensive hand-held shower that fits over the tub spout, and a ball of string or twine. The store will usually be happy to make the one or two cuts you might need to get the dowels to a suitable length.

Back home, lay the dowel on the floor in a rectangle, overlapping the corners a few inches. Lash each of the corners together with twine. Install four hooks in the ceiling approximately where the corners of the enclosure will be. Use some more twine to hang rectangle from the hooks. Install two shower curtains, each extending from the front of the enclosure to the back. Install the shower over the tub spout. To shower, slip between the shower curtains, and use the hand held shower. If you use PVC pipe, you can cut and lash them as described above, or you can also try the following method. This is only recommended if you're reasonably handy: Mark where the corners/bends will be with a marker, allowing for a curve radius of about 6 inches (15.2 cm). Heat up the marked section of pipe with a flame, such as a blowtorch or gas stove. Do not breathe the smoke/fumes from the heated pipe. Move the pipe constantly to heat the entire area.
